Introducing Our Orca Whales Reflections of the Captain

THE OLDEST AND STILL THE BEST WHALE WATCH CRUISE IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, SINCE 1962.

Our orca whale tour has often been imitated but never duplicated!

When we started, most of those guys were still in short pants!

Winner of the "Best Tourism-related Business" Award
- as determined by a citizens' poll conducted by the Bellingham Business Journal

We have the ONLY spotter seaplane in the business,
therefore we always know where the whales are!

We guarantee that you will see orca whales on our San Juan Island whale watching tours. Not just any whales, but orca whales!
We find orcas more than anyone in the business. No One beats our success rate in finding orca whales in the Pacific Northwest. We utilize spotters on land, in boats and our own seaplane to let us know the location of the whales and the direction they are heading. And because we only do full day trips, we have time to react to the latest spotting information.

"I just wanted to say 'Thank You' for a wonderful trip around the San Juan Islands in search of Orcas... Having taken a number of mainland based 'Whale Watch' cruises in the past 8 years including 2 excursions with your team, Island Mariner stands out as one of the best overall with a perfect sight-seeing vessel and top notch crew. The Island Caper is comfortable and provides seating for all degrees of exposure to the elements ... There's not a bad seat on the entire boat...
Thanks again for a memorable experience. I look forward to traveling with you again.
"

Sound Watch recognition for a perfect year in 2007!

Sound Watch is the patrolling and educational division of the San Juan Whale Museum. They are out on the waters of the San Juan Islands and Canadian Gulf Islands, every day. Their primary goal is to educate all boaters in the State and Federal guidelines for safe viewing of wildlife. As for whales, there are rules pertaining distance, direction, speed, closeness to shore, blocking their path, etc. As for other wildlife such as Seal haul outs or bird sanctuaries, again there are rules pertaining to distance and speed. At times it is hard to comply because of tides, currents, wind and other boats in the area. We try very hard to be responsible and obey all the regulations. We thank Sound Watch for all the days they spend out on the water making sure these wonderful creatures of nature are looked after. We are proud that in the season of 2006 we were not observed making any mistakes. A PERFECT YEAR FOR US: few can say that.

For 2008, our Whale Watch Cruises will start in the spring and continue through the fall. Cruises depart at 10:00 am and return around 4:00 pm.

The object of our cruise is to find the magnificent killer whales (also known as Orca whales). We may also see Gray, Humpback or Minke whales, little known relatives of the great Blue Whale.

See our Whale Watch Cruises page for more information!

Because we've been cruising the San Juan Islands since 1962 - showing you all of the kudos we've received would take too much of your time. Simply stated - JUST ASK ANY ONE OF OUR 300,000 PASSENGERS - WE ARE STILL THE BEST - COME SEE WHY!

We now have copies of our Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection and Proof of insurance forms online:
